Text Box: DOES TAKING THE WESTEST2 REALLY MATTER?
All too often I hear students talking to one another before taking required state testing. I hear them speak of how they do not try when taking the test because it doesn’t matter as far as their grade is concerned. This is one perception that we need to change. All state assessment is very important to each student and it is reflected as such on their permanent record card.
Every school year, we are required to make sure each student participates in taking the required assessments. The WESTEST 2 measures how well your child has mastered the content in the four academic subject areas: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Accordingly, if your child scores below mastery they may be placed in a remedial class in which they do want. This often leads the child being upset and parents requesting permission for their child to be taken out of the class. However, because your child scored below mastery in certain subject areas, our procedure mandates they be placed into remedial programs.
Therefore, when students say that taking the WESTEST 2 means nothing to them, they are wrong. It determines what classes they will be enrolled in the next school year. Parents cannot call the school and request changes to their child’s schedule just because the student is upset about being in remedial classes. All remedial classes are intended to help your child be successful in the subject area in which they are having difficulty. Please make sure you have a talk with your child about the importance of this test.
Text Box: HONOR ROLL WALL
Every nine weeks those students who are on the academic honor roll will have their name placed in the hallways with their grade point average recognizing them as academic achievers.
Within the next two weeks we will be placing the first semester honor roll students on the walls. When you visit the school be sure and check out our honor roll wall.
